001 ; (obligatory)

This journal is locked but I am generally 100% ok with people adding me, as long as you let me know you've done so. I'm just a super private person.

I'm a student of Ancient History in the UK. I like food, rats, sci-fi, and poetry. I'm bad at updating, lately.

I post fic here, dreamwidth layouts here, and attempt to make gifs/other fandom contributions here.

I'm sat on the cold floor in Parma airport, which is barely the size of a small supermarket. I can watch people board their flights from where I'm sitting by the front entrance. I've been here for three hours. My flight isn't for another five. I have absolutely no money. I'm very hungry, and very tired.

I don't even know where to start when talking about the past three months, except that the phrases 'absolute hell' and 'worst experience of my life' will be involved. I honestly don't know where to start. So I'll leave it until my brain can process things a little better.

Suffice to say I'll not be coming back to Italy for a long while, and even then I'll be hesitant, and only for a holiday.

Long time no update. I'm alive, just very busy & stressed, although I have a week off university now so that should be good.

On to business: I have a tonne of books I want to get rid of. Most of these are books I bought when I was doing my Literature degree; books which are completely useless to me now. I have nowhere to keep them and it makes me sad that so many good books are just lying around in various cupboards in my house.

I don't want much for them, just a few £s + postage (from the UK), I'll ship to wherever, you can buy more than one, etc. Comment here if you are interested, let me know how much you're willing to pay, and then I will PM you.

Most of these are ~Lit student~ type books, ie the classics, but there are a couple of normal fiction books. They're all pretty good quality and most of them cost me a lot. There are no Greek/Roman texts on here because I still need to use them - it's mostly English lit from the Victorian era.

This is public so feel free to link around if you know anyone who has a burning desire to own a bunch of literature.

(no subject)

I don't know which part of my brain thought it would be a good idea to learn a new language at this point in my life, but it was a terrible idea. A natural linguist, I am not. History is going well, Art is ok, Literature is books I've already studied, but Greek? I'm cool with grammar, but the actual vocab is like blood from a stone.

Still, there's always English.

I done a poem.

I dream I am a volcano
Old and grumbly with a belly full of char.

... )

Most days I am the volcano: tumultuous. I wish I could be the insect: peaceful. I have an affinity for the star: lonely.

I got 3 stories for Yuletide - three! And I have another gift waiting to be revealed when Yuletide Madness opens! I'm so happy!

I got:

The Three Days Before Christmas, a wonderful Stargate: Universe fic - somebody actually wrote my Eli-makes-a-Christmas-documentary-on-Novus idea, and I love it! I would definitely recommend reading it :D

Christmas on Novus, another SGU Novus-timeline fic (can't you tell that Novus is my favourite alternate reality? XD), and I love it; everybody is so in-character, and there are typical SGU happenings: trying to plan tree decorating, dressing up as Santa, and somebody being a Grinch :P

The Stars At Dawn, a post-movie Starshop Troopers fic - that's right, I finally got the Starship Troopers fic I've been requesting for years! I'm so happy, and this fic is so perfect, I absolutely love it, and it really solidifies why Dizzy is my favourite :D

I've had a good day, watched a lot of Buffy & Firefly, and had a lovely bath with some strawberry bath creame my grandparents got me :) Also my mum got me the fluffiest pink slippers ever, I stg, I am in love with them <3 My rats loved their presents, and I have a few videos of them to post next time. I hope you all enjoy what's left of Christmas!

Posting this on my phone 'cause I'm a pro.

[fic] 2012 // Stargate SG-1

Title: 2012
Fandom: Stargate (SG-1)
Characters: Cassandra Fraiser, Sam Carter.
Rating/Category: PG/gen
Wordcount: 1244
Summary: She's never really stopped to consider the fact that there are armies out there willing to blow a hole in the galaxy. Or that, once upon a time, they were willing to use her to do it.
Notes/warnings: The end of the world, from Cassie’s perspective. (It’s officially December, which means I’m free to post all the apoca!fic I want right? Here’s to the Alien Invasion of 2012!). I figured that there are enough fics exploring alien invasion from other characters’ POVs, I wanted to see how it would feel from Cassie’s perspective. I took some liberties with her age, I guess, because in 2012 she’d probably be too old for college, but maybe she went to med school or something idk she probably wants to be a doctor like her mother.
A/N 2: Yep, I’m still procrastinating my Yuletide piece. At least this is in the same fandom? Kind of?

When the world ends Cassie is sick. Her eyes sting and her head pounds, and she starts seeing spaceships in the sky between star clusters and airplane halos... )

[fic] I Can Do This (Probably) // Stargate Universe

Title: I Can Do This (Probably)
Author: punch // cirque
Fandom: Stargate Universe
Pairing/Characters: Eli Wallace. Chloe Armstrong (hallucination). Daniel Jackson (hallucination). Mentioned: Sam Carter, Rodney McKay, Nicholas Rush.
Rating/Category: PG/gen
Wordcount: 2091
Prompt: Stargate Universe, Eli, I can do this.
Spoilers: For the final episode of SG:U, set approximately a week after Eli watches the others lock themselves into the stasis pods.
Summary: He looks up to them in much the same way that he looks up at the stars. “Don’t you get it?” Says Chloe, effervescent with the tell-tale flicker of hallucination. “Eli, you’re not looking up at the stars now. You’re looking out at them.”
Notes/warnings: Post ep for Gauntlet. Written for [ profile] smallfandomfest. I basically wanted to write a fic in which Eli has a little moment of self-discovery. The prompt was 'I can do this', and so this fic is centric around Eli coming to understand that yes, actually, he is just as good as Jackson and Carter and McKay.

quotes post.

Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences.
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you.
